Pat Geslinger seems mediocre.

I'm not so sure Pat's core strength is fab technology, though he is a very sharp guy and will at least bring a technology and product vision to a longtime rudderless ship. Maybe TSMC will bail them out and buy out their fabs? But worse, I'm not so sure he can so easily step back in and right the ship these days, with a management network of posers and toadies that Krczanich wove deeply into a once technocratic culture.Good backstory on the new Intel CEO:

Who is new Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger?
VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger is returning to Intel, where he worked for 30 years, as the CEO replacing Bob Swan.fortune.com
But I believe Pat will understand the tightly coupled Design (which he was over) and Fabrication to get devices that are required. So he can dig in much deeper than Swan or even BK and able to ferret out problem people and replace them quickly before more damage....but time will tell.I'm not so sure Pat's core strength is fab technology, though he is a very sharp guy and will at least bring a technology and product vision to a longtime rudderless ship. Is Pat allowed to have enough time to rebuild Intel to prove the pure IDM model is a winning strategy? But I believe Pat will understand the tightly coupled Design (which he was over) and Fabrication to get devices that are required. No question, Pat is several 'rungs' above Swan's capabilities...

Gelsinger's return to Intel 'is like Steve Jobs' second tour of duty at Apple'
Soon-to-be-former VMware head Pat Gelsinger’s return to Intel as its CEO is a decision that’s been heralded by some analysts as the right move for the semiconductor giant.www.reseller.co.nz
Let's hope so.
I think what is important is that someone really looks after share holders instead of some other ideology.A bit of necro here - but given the "new for 2025" Intel CEO announcement, I wanted to see how sentiment compared to what happened in 2021.
It looks like optimisim is higher for Lip-Bu Tan, but so is the challenge he is facing vs. what Pat was facing. Everyone here talked about process problems but Lip-Bu certainly faces financial crises. Intel still had a strong war chest and balance sheet in early 2021, though clearly worsening.
Also some comments that INTC was up 10-20% after Pat's announcement also.
Pat was undoubtedly a bigger problem. What Lip Bu face today is much smaller today. Financial problem are easy to figure out, not so much for technology.A bit of necro here - but given the "new for 2025" Intel CEO announcement, I wanted to see how sentiment compared to what happened in 2021.

I am much more optimistic about Lip-Bu. In fact, the more I think about it the more optimistic I am. Lip-Bu does not need the money, he is doing this for the greater good of the semiconductor industry and to cement himself as one of the great Silicon Valley CEOs, absolutely.
