It isn't the importance of this single award, but the precedent it sets going forward for IP in international markets. This is why we need a better international IP protection and registration standard and a stock type market for it. This is key to keep the "Great Acceleration" of knowledge and its applications going at an ever increasing rate. Since the semi/nanotech sector is literally exploding in size and scope, how this develops will be even more important to this industry than most. I see the chance with the new ISO standards to develop whole new ways of developing, registering, marketing and getting paid for IP as creative as the new wave of technical IP itself. Sites like SemiWiki will provide a key forum to discuss creative solutions and options for this in a free flowing open manner. This is an issue that demands the community steps up for the benefit of everyone.
