Apple is up against the high end smart phone wall. There is only so much demand for high end smart phones and the competition is strong and varied. The best hope for Apple is to change the rules of the game entirely. Go from the leading smart phone company to the leader in mobile medicine. Buying the Wuxiapptec would accomplish this in one dramatic action. WX has a special meeting the 25th of November on taking the company private at a bargain price. Apple could easily come in and buy the company in the four to five billion dollar range and it would be the best bargain they ever had. They would get the world's foremost bio foundry that deals with both drugs and devices with international certifications and 7000 researchers and employees. It would allow them to make the IPhone a key part of dramatically advancing the medical world. No longer would medicine be generalized like it is now. Drugs, devices and treatments could be monitored and controlled in real time 60/60/24/7/365 at minimal cost and to maximum effectiveness. Apple has the money, know how, political and business connections to pull this off. Wuxiapptec has extensive operations and relationships among them the Mao Clinic, Gilead, GlaxoSmithKline and many more. They not only have an extensive network in China, but the US and around the world. They already work with the Apple and TSM platforms so this would be an easy fit. This would immediately separate Apple from the other smart phone makers in a decisive and hard to duplicate way. It would be a logical extension and expansion of the Apple/TSM relationship for TSM as the worlds largest maker of MEMS, already gives Apple the capability to be the largest force in medical mems.
This would take much of what is hit and miss procedures with general diagnostics and convert general solutions to customized solutions that would be far more effective both cost and health wise. It would also create a large real time data base that could speed up the advances in medical dramatically. At a seven trillion dollar market, medical is one area that could give Apple significant headroom to grow and have an immediate jump on the competition. This would be a major transition for Apple at lightning speed, but one it could easily take. Apple would has the power and finances to leverage an investment like this by many, many times in a very few years. It would literally change a significant sector of the semi world almost overnight.
Full disclosure, I have shares of TSM and WX
