I saw this news all over X.com. I have some opinions on PC makers like Dell. I used to work for a repair depot and reverse logistics company that repaired Dell’s PCs.
Dell doesn’t make any PCs/laptops. They outsource to ODMs like Quanta Computer. The ODM does everything from design to manufacturing. Dell is essentially a Walmart. They just sell. I remember one time we had a bunch of “monitors” with a little hump on the back, which were supposed to be all in one PCs (monitor plus PC) like Apple’s iMac. Dell f'ck up and the all in one became a monitor with a little hump at the back that does nothing. You’d think Dell would lose a lot of money over this screw-up, but nah, they still lost money but not by much because their corporate sales team was able to pimp these monitors to corporations.
I’m not sure what the point is of Nvidia buying a PC maker since they don’t make PCs but just sell. Perhaps Jensen made too much money and doesn’t know where to spend it, so buying a name brand like Dell to sell his GPUs makes sense in case the AI bubble pops. After all, there are only a few PC name brands left around the world since PCs became commoditized and consolidated.
