Micron abandoning retail sales to focus on commercial clients, is just one step towards data centers taking compute power and diversity becoming the most economical way of keeping up with the latest programs. Handling and managing complex and expensive programs and platforms make no sense on for an individual or small commercial enterprise. It will be far more economical and efficient to leave the large capital investments to data centers that can afford to keep up with the latest from a technical and cost standpoint than the individual consumer or small business. This is just a continuation of a long term trend that has been taking place for years that benefits both parties as far as scale, expertise and costs.
