Alphacore is proud to present its latest research paper, “Design Feasibility and Link Budget Assessment of Aerial 5G IoT and eMBB Connectivity,” at the upcoming AIVTS Conference, October 26–30, 2025. This work explores how Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) can be equipped with 5G radios to rapidly establish ad-hoc, high-performance connectivity in environments lacking terrestrial infrastructure—such as during emergency response, expeditionary missions, or large-scale events. Leveraging virtualized 5G architectures, Alphacore’s study demonstrates how both base station and minimal core network functions can be efficiently hosted aloft to support Internet of Things (IoT) and enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) applications. The paper presents a detailed feasibility analysis and radio link budget assessment, offering insights into performance trade-offs among frequency band, UAV altitude, and coverage range, ultimately guiding the design of lightweight, energy-efficient aerial 5G systems built from commercial off-the-shelf components.
