Tracking the Intel turnaround - watching the hiring patterns

Prompted by seeing a new article from Claus Aasholm at Semiconductor Business Intelligence (who deserves all the credit for this insight and has some of the best data graphics I've ever seen).

He rightly points out that even as we pass [probably] the period of maximum pessimism around Intel and mass layoffs are still occuring, we do also know that Lip-Bu Tan is committed to refreshing Intel with necessary new hires to drive the turnaround. So we can usefully start paying attention to exactly who Intel is trying to hire and where.

Claus' analysis suggests that Intel's open hiring positions have actually turned back upwards. Also interesting to note that there's been no drop in total Intel headcount in Asia (though some might still be working its way through).

My own instinct is that doing the right new hiring and getting the right people in the right positions may be even more important than the current headcount reductions. And this is something I definitely think Lip-Bu Tan can do. As long as he doesn't get too many more interruptions from his new shareholder.

Good data. I believe LBT plan is to get rid of a lot of "extras" and "Intel way" people. AND add new people with new ideas from successful companies. Extremely painful, but its how to change the culture and eliminate the "But you dont understand how we do it here" comments.

FYI: Good comments from DZ today at analyst presentation. I really like that guys honesty (Diamond Rapids doesnt match competition....).

Rather than being honest, I think it's foolish to give up on this product at this point when it hasn't even been released yet and there is still potential for it to be improved.
This guy is not honest at all. He's a defeated warrior who gave up before even starting the fight. lololol

It's not something to praise at all That's not something to praise at all This is truly a loser

Well, to defend him, you've really twisted his words too much.
It's true that they haven't completely surpassed or caught up, but they have said that they have surpassed them in certain areas.
I've just listened to everything he said, There is no reason for you to say such cruel things.

Is Diamond Rapids something that you hope closes the gap? It's better than Granite, but it doesn't get you to...

It doesn't get us quite there. I mean it does in certain cases, the performance is actually better. But in other cases, it's not. And so we've got more work to do to finally get to a place. And it's really not -- I think Lip-Bu actually named the product in some forum, but Coral Rapids is the next product. And that's our real opportunity, I think, to begin to take a really good step forward.

It seems like a relevant detail is that most of the job openings appear to be in Ohio, which would suggest that they are beginning to staff the new site as opposed to replacing talent in R&D in Oregon or manufacturing in Arizona. Even with the staffing reduction goals, hiring will be unavoidable in order to commission the new site and bring it online in the future.

This guy is a loser-minded CFO who thinks he's already lost before the fight even begins.
Why don't you put in the effort? It hasn't even been released yet, so there's room for improvement...
