Maybe now they're REALLY trusted.

How can anyone trust that company after their nonsense with IBM? Yeah, pay us money, we'll manufacture for you, but wait, we suck, and can't compete, and you shouldn't even want us to make chips for us, so we didn't really break the contract. We sucked our way out of it.

Been on the wrong side of GF nonsense before , not sure the relationship has recovered.

I am wondering if they would have gone out of business if the capacity shortage hadnt come around during COVID

Those fabs GF got from IBM were in the trusted foundry list for a while. The Malta, New York fab was not in the list until this announcement although it offers the most advanced node technology GF has.
