edit: i'm impressed with Apple's M1 chip and there are so many positive reviews on it. Can we get a podcast talking about Apple's M1 and its impact to the industry?

This seems more like Intel's push for talent to reclaim overall leadership, not necessarily a specific attack on Apple talent. IMO

They're committing enough money to bring people out of retirement, why not hire top talent from [all] competitors?

This could be valid, but it really depends on whether or not this was a friendly departure or not. If Intel is trying to vie for Apple business in the future, and this was not a friendly parting of ways, it may hurt Intels prospects of winning future Apple business. In theory, business is business, but the reality is things do get personal, especially when you are talking about high level employees.
 
It's more about chiplets and gpus, dpus and whatever will be next. The products weren't as good. Tsmc's ecosystem is the problem that Intel pretends doesn't exist.
 
More MBA-brained great man theory, I've read what makes the M1 interesting didn't come from Apple but a third party collaborator. Was Jim Keller able to alter Intel's inertia at all?
 
Keller, Raja, Williams are the new "rockstar engineers." Software guys realised that their "platform wars" are for nothing if they will stop existing if hardware makers stop selling reasonably priced silicon. And reasonably priced silicon means foundry contract.

These rockstars are talented guys without a question, but mostly people are capitalising on panic mode hiring, and having a good laugh seeing 7 digit offers piling up.
 
This is standard Silicon Valley practice: Change jobs to get a better title/better pay, new company new challenge, grass is always greener... The big difference now is the pay jump. Silicon Valley salaries have jumped significantly during the pandemic. We have a serious talent shortage, much more serious that then chip shortage, absolutely.

This guy has jumped before so it should not come as a surprise. At least he knows what he is getting into.
