Will Software Systems be the next front in war?

We have seen the damage and business disruption in the latest software failure, it isn't hard to see that software may be the next major battlefield for war and maybe even more important than the physical battlefield. Any thoughts that warfare may software one of the most significant fields of warfare in the next conflict and how to prepare both defenses and offenses? Could software as weaponry and defenses be one of the next large markets, it already is here and growing?
