  • Interesting revenue patterns. The 2019 dip and 2020 rebound I understand but I thought in 2021 we were in the midst of a crippling chip shortage and wafer price hikes? How is 2021 not stronger than 2020 thus far? Any thoughts as to 2022?

  • Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. – Nov. 10, 2021 – TSMC (TWSE: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced its net revenue for October 2021: On a consolidated basis, revenue for October 2021 was approximately NT$134.54 billion, a decrease of 11.9 percent from September 2021 and an increase of 12.8 percent from October 2020. Revenue for January through October 2021 totaled NT$1,283.77 billion, an increase of 17.0 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

YoY is still very healthy, and October 2021's revenue is still the 4th best month of the year so far - upper half.

The way it's bouncing between months makes me think there is some weird "weekly" / "weekend" calculation stuff going on inbetween months - some months maybe getting 5 weeks of shipment while other months 'just get' 4 weeks of revenue.

What % of sales are legacy nodes that are automakers and analog parts that are in shortage?

I'm not sure what you meant.

October 2021 revenue is a 12.8% increase from October 2020. January to October 2021 revenue is a 17% increase compare to January to October 2020. Both indicate a stronger 2021 than 2020.

So far this year TSMC's automotive segment sales is at 4% of the total revenue for the first three quarters. It's about 3% for 2020.

Monthly numbers can be noisy and there are probably some order/sales/revenue realization timing effects in play.
