TSM has become the defensive tool Taiwan has. We have truly entered a new age when knowledge and its application may be used as a defense against aggression. TSM and its supporting companies, universities, work force and infrastructure have literally become the modern equivalent of a very deep and very wide moat. China knows any military action would destroy this fragile infrastructure beyond any chance of repair since it depends on literally a worldwide supply chain of both hard goods, soft goods and a steady supply of intellectual property from around the world. TSM and affiliated companies all rely on this fragile ecosystem that has a long complex chain that if broken at any point will disable it and render it useless. This is not a one and done complex that could repaired, but a living virtual ecosystem that is getting ever more complex and harder to duplicate as time goes on. To take the TSM ecosystem, a country would literally have to take over most of the modern world and this is almost an absolute impossibility. It's not just a fab, but an ecosystem of knowledge, materials, research institutions and finance of unprecedented scale in the history of mankind, held together by data systems that span the world. TSM is the ultimate shield.
