Sysrem RDL - dead or almost alive?

I thought System RDL was long dead, but I heard Intel is trying to resurrect it. If so, why? Whats the story?

There's a working group on SystemRDL at Accellera with Miles McCoo (Intel) as chair. SystemRDL - Accellera Systems Initiative

Denali believed in this technology, and now part of Cadence they must have some belief in it. SystemRDL Alliance

Mentor, MIPS and Rambus are also SystemRDL Alliance Charter Members.

Back in 2007 Denali donated the format to Spirit.

Companies like Semifore depend on SystemRDL to be living and growing. SemiFore | Total Register Automation Methodology, They have written a good history and future on SystemRDL at http://www.semifore.com/sites/default/files/files/Semifore Inc - SystemRDL strategyv3.pdf

Thanks to Daniel for his quick response and the favorable mentions of our company in his post. I have been involved with SystemRDL since its inception, and was part of the Cisco team that developed the internal solution that Denali commercialized and branded as SystemRDL. So with this clear understanding of the potential of a solution, but knowing the foreseeable shortcomings of the implementation of SystemRDL1.0, we started Semifore in 2006.
Even in 2009 when the ‘standard’ was published by the SPIRIT/Accellera consortium it was missing some significant market driven requirements that I believed were important to complete designs. The standard has not been updated since that timeframe thus creating a rather large new requirements list for version 2.0. Incidentally, Semifore’s CSRCompiler was the only commercial tool that was available to validate the draft standard in 2009.
Semifore is participating in the reconvened standards committee, as we are with IP-XACT and UVM. It is interesting to note that our solution currently provides a high percentage of the new functionality requirements being discussed for SystemRDL 2.0. However, given the complex mechanics of any committee, it is unlikely we will see any actual deliverables from the reconvened committee in the near future. In the meantime Semifore will continue with its mission of providing a functional superset of all the ‘standards’ we are involved with, including SystemRDL,
