Smart Phone as High Power Medical Tool

3D-printed attachment turns any smartphone into a DNA-scanning microscope

This is but one example of the smart phone becoming a diverse, broad range set of low cost, high power medical tools. This will be able to have people adapt their smart phone to a high power medical tool that isn't even available in most doctor's offices. This is going to make medical accessories for smart phones a bigger market than smart phones themselves. This will enable us if handled properly to increase the quality of medical care, while reducing the costs, just like the Silicon Valley culture does to everything it touches. In this way the monopoly of US medical that keeps costs high and quality low can be broken. This will dramatically change the largest single sector of our economy and offer a wealth of opportunity for the semi/mems sector. It will also allow remote medicine and diagnostics that may have a chance of breaking the back of the monopoly of US medical providers. Comments and thoughts actively wanted on this issue.
