Samsung buying BlackBerry?

Last week I had learnt that Samsung is in talks with BlackBerry to buy the later, offering a price between $13.35 to $15.49, with a total value of ~$7.5B. However, hearing that the executives from both sides are denying about any talk on this, I held back.

However, today, again, the news has re-surfaced, read it here.

So, the smoke isn't without fire. We may hear that acquisition in due course until BlackBerry gets convinced on that valuation or Samsung may increase the price. BlackBerry board feels that after restructuring their business, they can get better valuation. Also, there are possibilities being discussed whether to buy part of BlackBerry or full, but strategically buying BlackBerry in full seems to be a better strategy for Samsung. Are we going to see this acquisition coming through?

If I look at from business point of view, it makes perfect sense for Samsung and Blackberry to combine.

While Blackberry is very rich in patents (~44000) and software, it's market share of handsets is just ~1%. It's severly struggling in generating revenue.

Samsung on the other hand is getting crushed with competition - feature wise from Apple and price wise from Xiaomi. We are yet to see how its Galaxy S6 does with curved screen does. However, Blackberry can give an edge to Samsung to compete against Apple. And the two companies can live happily
