Some coal supporters like to believe that alternative energy sources are being propped up by favoritism and special government programs which wouldn't survive in an open market. But natural gas is already far ahead in cost effectiveness and solar is rapidly becoming a new favorite in some metro areas and with large companies. Now offshore wind generation is joining the chase, halving costs for generation in just 2 years. I feel for those whose jobs depend on coal but propping up coal in defiance of shifting economics isn't a good solution either.
As I travel around the world I wonder why I don't see more solar panels. They should be on EVERY roof in EVERY country. China has the most solar panels deployed and the US is #4 behind Japan and Germany. We really need to up our game here.
The same thing with fossil fuels. China is working on a gas powered car ban. Meanwhile the crumbling US roads are full of SUVs and muscle cars racing around with impunity.
I really am concerned for my Grandchildren's health and welfare. Hopefully the semiconductor industry will come to the rescue......
