Low cost genetic mapping will open the medical semi market for whole new wave of medical devices to regulate and control the human body by themselves, with drugs and to control medical devices. They will also become critical in literally manufacturing/growing new body parts based on your own genome. Besides the financial implications on costs, pensions and medical benefits, this will upend our social structure in ways we have not even imagined. Mix in the rise of artificial intelligence coming on and you will have a world we won't recognize in ten years. The social/political implications will be even more important than the technical issues and be far more difficult to handle. On top of this, add on the Automation of Everything and now after getting up ended, we'll get tumbled. We are definitely entering a Brave New World that will require not only technical expertise, but the wisdom to handle a very, very different future. Any ideas, thoughts or comments on this fast approaching reality?
