China unveils ‘mini fridge’ AI server that uses 90% less power than other systems

"The BIE-1 integrates 1,152 central processing unit cores – or mini processors that execute instructions and perform calculations – with 4.8 terabytes of DDR5 memory and 204 terabytes of storage space."

The South China Morning Post used to be a reputable news source, but since its got bought by Alibaba, its quality seem going down the shitter.

If China possesses such an advanced AI server, why keep crying about U.S. ban?

this system seems to surpass what Nvidia currently offers.

They have taken to simply repackaging the technobabble given to them by universities and companies trying to score points with a government that is trying to highlight innovation. The vague description that steers clear of any known LLMs or benchmarks speaks to how far from real relevance this hardware lives. But I think the real issue is that universities and companies have been encouraged to make ridiculously bold claims.

“The device packs the capabilities of a supercomputer – including training and inference speeds that rival traditional computing clusters – into a refrigerator-sized unit with the help of an intuitive neural network and brain-like artificial intelligence algorithm.”
