The IP/Copyright market has become an international mess that has become so harmful it's become a major roadblock to progress in not only the tech sector, but all fields of endeavor. What is needed is an international system that is online, transparent and fair. The world now has a mess with everyone operating under different and conflicting rules that have become so onerous, they are inhibiting progress and application of IP of all types in all fields. What the world needs is a uniform set of rules with an online platform that provides transparency to everyone to avoid disputes and keep costs down. A fair and open stock market style of selling and issuing patents, copyrights with both restricted and unlimited use rights besides outright sale. Having all this out in the open and real time would greatly aid progress, instead of inhibiting it as now happens far to many times. This would benefit countries, companies and individuals in such a way innovation would become part of the "Great Acceleration" instead of greatly hindering progress and raising costs as the current system is doing. It's time to get rid of the failing patchwork, failing system of handling, marketing and applying IP for not only the tech sector, but all fields of endeavor. A system like this would have the potential to speed up the progress of mankind substantially and apply more of our resources to creating IP than fighting about it.
A system such as this could also greatly encourage the use of an existing technology to build on, rather than starting from scratch to achieve a goal, further speeding up the process. This would create true international collaboration on many projects, bringing us all closer together. This would make IP a true asset class to be worked with in creative ways to extract maximum value, just like stock is used currently. IP is the new gold/currency. With a search engine attached, this would save dramatically on marketing and distribution and IP conflicts across borders. The increase in economic efficiency would benefit everyone and benefit the world as a whole.
One other great advantage of a world wide patent/copyright system is that is would be easy to see who had the right to a technology and who had stolen it illegally.
