China has a huge baby boom population nearing retirement and, thanks to the one child policy, not nearly enough youngsters to staff an expanding economy or support social security etc for the aged. Talk now about China needing to pursue a very active immigration policy or get left behind. This isn't good news for China - mass immigration would be politically and culturally difficult I would think - but probably not for Western businesses either if we were hoping to expand in China.
Since we have the same aging population problem in the West and fewer people, where are the huge number of immigrants to China going to come from if you see this as an opportunity for "Western" businesses? The only answer is Africa, which I guess is not what "Western" meant...
Excellent point. No one country (perhaps not even the West as a whole) has the capacity to feed CHina's need, even if they were to open their borders. They have a real problem
