Interesting analysis of Amazon vs Microsoft cloud strategies

Microsoft is pushing a hybrid strategy with Azure - private cloud + public cloud. Argument is that you're never going to want everything in the public cloud. The cloud has an edge where for latency, cost-management and security reasons you want to keep some of your compute. Containerization makes it easy to move tasks around between the public and private clouds. This is the focus for Azure.

Amazon is doubling down on all-public cloud, arguing that big internal datacenters are non-differentiating and therefore will eventually disappear as need to justify investment in this area becomes increasingly difficult.

By the way, check out more on containers. These are a big trend IMHO. They sit on top of virtualization rather than replacing it, but in the not-too-distant future, programmers will no longer care about virtual platforms - they be much more focussed on containers.
