How fast and how far can AI go from here?

What are the upcoming advances is AI/ML before us and what are the paths open? How will software, hardware and memory be involved and integrated in these advances? Is optical computing as has been done the future? Any thoughts on time between generations? Will applications and integration into robotic labs be large future markets? Will more and more facilities be able to run dark, with few if any people involved? Any thoughts on the timeline for autonomous transportation of all types, including land, sea, air and rail?
