When we talk about cloud, the size and speed do matter. The size of cloud service is measured by point of presence (PoP), meaning a place where a company's computers get direct access to the internet and a local telecom service provider. With a PoP of 90, Google is perhaps the largest. Amazon Web Services (AWS) has 53 PoP.

Google has largest computing resources including its ultra-fast fibre network, computers, and software for data analysis. The Google Cloud Platform backs up user data in nine different locations at all times.

Google Cloud Platform operates in many specialty sectors including manufacturing, genomics, and media in the global arena. IBM is another large player in Cloud business.

Where do we see Google in Cloud computing business in next 3 years? Shouldn't it lead aggressively and own major cloud business world-wide?

The storage requirement for cloud services is growing, and the state of Oregon is attracting many vendors because in this state with have low-cost power thanks to hyro-electric plants.

I guess, hydro-electric plants are the lowest cost power generators.

Yes, hydro power is very low cost, in fact the Bonneville Dam in Oregon was built just before the start of WWII and it helped power the electricity needed by Boeing to build all of those aluminum aircraft so necessary to win WWII against the Germans.

Not sure why the number of PoP is a way to measure the cloud infrastructure size? The backend computing power/capacity and the efficiency of network traffic routing may be more important to most customers. You can access a local PoP doesn't guarantee a most efficient route to a particular datacenter. Thanks.

Definitely, computing capacity and network efficiency are must. However for them to be measured, the Point of Presence is the first necessary criteria.
