Facebook may have positive aspects, but has become a major tool used by scammers to target people. Just like any other technology, Facebook can be horribly and deliberately abused to the detriment of many. Any technology can be abused as many have been throughout history. It is up to the people working with it to incorporate safety procedures and regulations that are enforced to prevent abuse. In its profit above all else strategy, Facebook has bypassed safety in the name of profit and growth and has scrimped on the tools and processing power needed to properly police its sight for abuse at the data center. Any new technologies and their applications must take safety into account and while it can have very large benefits, Facebook can have a very large and dangerous down side. It has definitely skimped on the people, software and hardware to accomplish this in the pursuit of excess profit and growth. If a more physical oriented industry had done this, they would have been sued with severe consequences. It's past time for Facebook to use their resources responsibly and be accountable before the legal system adapts to a new paradigm and hits them with a devastating wave of legal actions for not only supporting, but enabling criminal and unethical behavior. New frontiers, require new vision and on this Facebook has failed.

Facebook doesn't have the only technology used to abuse people, As the article below demonstrates, Amazon is mastering Big Brother in not a good way. I hope the people working in the technology sector can become a true force for good and not be blind to abuses their creations may cause. It's not enough to just make a technology and unleash it, but to take at least some responsibility for it's uses through transparency at least.
