Christophe Fouquet, CEO ASML: 'You should know how many fuck-ups it takes to make the most complex machine in the world'

Interesting interview:

"We make mistakes here all the time, that's the only way to move forward, to learn. You should know how many fuck-ups it takes to make the most complex machine in the world. But the context has changed. In my previous position on the board of directors, sometimes things went disastrously wrong with our EUV machines. Back then, all I had to do was face an angry customer – now the whole world is looking at ASML."

Christophe Fouquet, CEO ASML: "What is wrong is that our system made it possible for such a mistake to have consequences at all."

Every time there is a problem at a checkout counter in a supermarket or a fast food restaurant, people blame the "stupid computer" for causing it. It's much more polite than blaming a cat or a dog, I guess.
