Battery Demand to Push New Technologies

With the demand for batteries at every level increasingly driving demand for new technologies and applications from miniature sensors to grid-scale storage, the amount of funds and efforts to build better batteries will drive many new technologies and borrow advanced technologies from the closely related semi-sector. This will extend from numerous chemistry, structural and physical changes in everything from research to manufacturing processes that will borrow and contribute to the semi-sector. Any information and thoughts on this area and the impacts it will have will have on materials, new processes and products would be appreciated. I know as a holder of AMAT stock, they have devoted considerable efforts in this area both directly and through their venture capital arm. Thanks.
 
Battery manufacturing processes have very little in common with semiconductor manufacturing processes. Futhermore the battery market is fracturing by market vertical.

It's become clear that LFP battery chemistry will come to dominate EVs for at least the next 10 years, while it looks like NaFP batteries are going to find adoption in grid energy storage.

There won't be any new fancy solid state batteries in either of these markets for at least decades, if ever, because the cost curve for those is not coming down as fast as the LFP/NaFP battery cost curve.
