Atmel integrates ECDH, ECDSA elliptic curve algorithms

View attachment 13327Atmel launched its new ATECC508A, an MCU peripheral for hardware-based security integrating two modern elliptic curve algorithms. The new part implements the ECDH (elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman) security protocol, and ECDSA (elliptic curve digital signature algorithm) for sign-verify authentication.

With I2C or single-wire interfaces, the ATECC508A can support almost any MCU. No secure storage is required in the host; only a public key is kept. The device sleeps at less than 150nA, and has a 1mA typical operating current running from 2 to 5.5V. It is rated from -40 to +85C, and comes in either 8-pin SOIC, 8-pad UDFN, or 3-lead contact packages.
