And my home PC and laptops have been happily running Windows 7 for 5 years and 2 years respectively with very few problems, doing what I need them to do in the way I want to do it without being locked into the Apple ecosystem doing things the way Apple wants me to do them. YMMV...

1200 Dollar iPhone, Specultion on CNBC

Some of the latest speculation on the iPhone is that it might come in at 1200 dollars, but none will few will be sold at that price, it will be folded into subscription plans where the cost of the network is coming down and Apple is making a grab for that money. Also in the same reports is that the functionality of the new iPhone will be well beyond the current iPhone and competition. The AR with measurement could be a ground breaking to for estimates and marketing that avoids having an estimator coming out. Definitely whether in 1K or 1.2k, it's only worth what the ROIC is. It will be interesting to see if Apple can come out with a product or platform that can match this hype and this will require a few surprises and a quantum leap. Apple and their suppliers are the best out there at keeping secrets, but this price point would require a few large ones and even then the market would be limited unless the surprise is huge. It's hard to keep huge surprises secret, but not impossible.
 
Maybe it'll have built-in Rampant Rabbit and Fleshlight functions, that will be a huge surprise that will keep *everybody* happy... ;-)
 
I use my laptops heavily, at least 60 hours a week, as other professionals is my field. I run well into the seven figures through my machines and the experience of others who do the same has been to switch to Apple and these are people with computer science degrees. I have also worked professionally in data distribution and have seen the same problems with Microsoft, especially in communications.

Ah Daniel. Meanwhile you have the crowd on ArsTechnica who consider it an unacceptable insult to something (unclear exactly what ...) that Apple still sell phones with "only" 16GB of storage.

I'm not sure quite what the pathology is, some sort of "clinical solipsism"? but the world seems full of people under the strange delusion that products are designed for them and them alone, and anything that doesn't match their exact desires and needs is/will be a failure.
Wrong tech specs? Failure!
Too expensive? Failure!
Wrong appearance? Failure!

The issue with ANY putative new product is not whether I (or you or J Random Commenter) likes it, it is the size of the TARGET audience, and whether the product is a good match to their particular needs.
So the question that matters is not "are you willing to say you dislike it?" but "are you willing to claim in public that it will be a failure, and to put some quantification to that claim?"

You're welcome to use whatever hardware and software you like, just like you're welcome to eat what you like or wear what you like.
What's rather less welcome is when you insist on throwing out claims that have no basis in reality. You appear to know absolutely nothing about Apple and the Apple eco-system, and under such circumstances it's rather more polite to keep quiet and either ignore the conversation or try to learn from it.

Apple has no lock-in regarding music. Music downloaded from the Apple store is in standard AAC format that can be read by any decent modern chip and can be transcoded to MP3 if you absolutely insist. Music from the Apple store was encrypted in the first few years at the demand of the music licensees, and that encryption was removed at the behest of Apple.

Your anger at Apple, meanwhile, is blinding you to the reality of modern computing. You're looking at the world through Windows95 eyes, when the interesting things that are happening (across ALL the tier one vendors) are things like the replacement of a single personal computer with a personal compute eco-system, the replacement of the threat models (and security solutions) of 1970s UNIX with the very different threat models (and solutions) appropriate to this personal compute eco-system, and the very new and currently completely wide-open space of ambient computing (which requires a whole new set of security solutions, along with a whole new set of user interface paradigms).


Beyond that you seem to have some sort of personal grudge against people who prioritize buying certain devices rather than others. Let me just say that this is foolish way to live your life. Other people differ from you, and if you insist on getting lathered up because THEY'RE WASTING THEIR MONEY BUYING A NICE IPHONE rather than doing what you would do and spending the same amount of money or more on, I don't know, a trip to South America, a 4K TV, your annual alcohol (or restaurant or theater) bill or a whole bunch of things I could not care less about, then you're going to find yourself ever more isolated and alone.

Looking at people you know nothing about and telling them "your lives suck and you're stupid in the choices you make" is a fine activity for people wearing bathrobes standing on street corners, but, IMHO, it's not really appropriate for this forum. How about we all agree to stick to commenting on TECHNICAL details, and correcting each others facts, and leaving the value judgements for reddit or 4chan?
 
@name99 -- thanks for carefully reading what I said and completely misinterpreting it...

I don't have a grudge against Apple, and as I said if people want to spend a lot on replacing their phone every year (Apple or Samsing or...) that's a perfectly valid choice for them to make -- but don't try and tell everyone that this is a superior way of living that will make everybody's life wonderful and fix all the ills of humanity, it's just another consumer spending choice like buying the latest 4k TV or newest car, which some people value and others don't.

I choose the open non-Apple route and I'm happy with that, it does what I need it to do. Others choose the closed Apple route and are happy with that, that's fine. But there are a lot of people -- some on this forum -- who seem to treat Apple as a religion, where unbelievers must be shown the error of their ways and converted, hallelujah. I object to that in the same way I object to religious proselytisers knocking on my door and telling me I'll burn in hellfire unless I convert and believe in their particular God.

So I agree, let's stick to technical details -- which means not making posts about how the latest iPhone will obviously make everybody happier and healthier because it's the pinnacle of human achievement, Arthur... ;-)

In other words "My laptop's bigger than yours" -- you seem to have forgotten that this isn't a playground full of seven-year-olds. People have good and bad experiences with both Apple and Microsoft, don't assume that your experience and opinions are shared by everybody.

Money, I'm a trader/investor, if you have followed me for a while. I put my money where my opinions are. I have never owned Apple or Google, for they don't fit my investment style, which is very different from the norm, but works for me.

I've even heard the rumor Apple is selling phones without uSD slot and a 2.5mm jack. I guess I'll stick with my 60EUR ChinaPhone.

I very much like my ZTE Promax for which I paid 100 USD each for my wife and I. I especially like the large screen. My laptops running windows 10 were cheap up front, but are proving very expensive in time costs. I think in my next go round I'll switch to Apple, but cry at the price difference. But time is money as the saying goes and Windows is the ultimate time waster. Working with margin really teaches you that time is money.

Just want to add that my last comment was just my way of saying that I think some people take their gadgets too seriously. But be sure that I will get riled up if you say something bad about The Amiga.
