Apple announced a major effort to build US AI data centers in the US using US made Nvidia chips made by TSM in their US fabs. This morning on CNBC. Any thoughts on how this will work with their new iPhones set up for AI?

Apple will spend more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years
Teams and facilities to expand in Michigan, Texas, California, Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina, and Washington

Plans include a new factory in Texas, doubling the U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, a manufacturing academy, and accelerated investments in AI and silicon engineering.

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced its largest-ever spend commitment, with plans to spend and invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. This new pledge builds on Apple’s long history of investing in American innovation and advanced high-skilled manufacturing, and will support a wide range of initiatives that focus on artificial intelligence, silicon engineering, and skills development for students and workers across the country.

“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing Fund, to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing. And we’ll keep working with people and companies across this country to help write an extraordinary new chapter in the history of American innovation.”

Apple Inc., as it seeks relief from US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on goods imported from China, said that it will hire 20,000 new workers and produce AI servers in the US.

The company said Monday that it plans to spend $500 billion domestically over the next four years, which will include work on a new server manufacturing facility in Houston, a supplier academy in Michigan and additional spending with its existing suppliers in the country. The disclosure comes days after Trump and Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook met in the Oval Office.

“He’s investing hundreds of billions of dollars,” Trump said after the meeting last week. He implied that the iPhone maker is investing locally because it does not want to pay tariffs. Trump has threatened an additional 10% tax on items imported from China, where Apple builds the vast majority of iPhones and other products. But he has traded investment in the US for relief in the past.

this is a very weird and PR centric announcement. Apple has data centers in the US and the 500B is not capex ..... it includes all spending. and they support 2.9M jobs.... LOL.

"We will spend 1 Jillion Dollars... its huge"

I bet he means that more people will use AI and develop apps on the iPhone.
Not sure it's good PR or bad PR.

Good time for the construction industry at the minute.

What is the timeline for any of these AI Data Centres to profitable , or is that not p

art of the plan?

Loss leaders to force the public into using other paid services?

We did the onshoring fab thing where only half the fabs that were announced were actually built. It will be the same thing with these $500B datacenters. Half will actually be built then we will find something else to obsess over. Exciting times in the semiconductor industry, absolutely.
