AI/ML the Utimate Free for All?

Arthur Hanson

Well-known member
With numerous AI/ML projects going on around the world and over 300,000 people working on AI/ML and additions every day, AI/ML looks like it will turn into a free for all with lots of unintended consequences. With the semi sector driving down the cost at an accelerating rate of hardware and enabling the acceleration of developing software to the point much of it may even be written or heavily augmented itself by AI/Ml, the spread of this technology may turn into a modern equivalent of a modern day gold rush of unprecedented scope, speed and size in impact. With hardware and software being widely available, AI/ML could easily become as widely available as people with just as many so called "personalities" for lack of a better word. Since it will be developed and used around the world, it will also be exposed to many widely varying legal, moral, social and ethical standards that very as much as the societies and people on earth do. I feel AI/ML will devolve into a free for all before it is brought under control. We have already seen numerous abuses with low grade AI/ML and it will only get greater for one man's abuse is another man's progress. Just like the distinctions between freedom fighters and terrorists. King George definitely didn't approve of our founding fathers and considered them terrorist that he made every effort to execute. We must reach out early around the world and at least reach some understandings that spread the benefits to as many as possible in the most inclusive manner to make the most of this awesome power we will come to be entrusted with. This is going to be more a social/cultural problem than a technical one. As time has shown technical problems are far easier to deal with than social/cultural problems. The best outcome would be for this to bring us all closer together and create more common ground/goals between us. If we are lucky enough to achieve this it won't be by chance, but by working towards common goals and aspirations. This movement will change the world and society for more than any other change in the history of mankind. In short, AI will change everything.

Comments, thoughts and additions solicited and welcome
