The "Great Acceleration" is taking hold in literally everything we touch with technology of all colors and stripes being applied to literally everything and then feeding on itself to speed progress up even faster. AI is no exception to this rule and the people and companies involved are figuring out how to make AI faster and more efficient. Nvidia, among them has developed a process called network pruning where they are able to trim down neural networks by trimming neurons that don't contribute directly to the process. All this will feed on itself just like all our other advancements, lowering costs while increasing functionality, speed and versatility. This will vastly grow the market for AI/ML over time, just like the tech sector has done with everything it has touched. AI/ML will have more impact than any development in the history of man for it will have the power to increase progress at an exponential rate never even approached in the history of man. No country or company can afford to lose this race for the speed at which you can be left behind will increase dramatically by its very nature. I'm sure there will several developments that will speed the development of AI/ML to a point that will be shocking to even us in the industry. AI/ML is still in its early stages, but picking up speed at a frantic rate.
This is the development of the greatest power mankind has ever seen. It will increase our knowledge and ability to apply it at a rate that will be unimaginable, causing changes in everything beyond what we have previously thought possible. This will touch every part of our lives, society and the world. I just hope we find the wisdom to handle the power we are creating.
