So HBM4E was claimed to be custom logic base die optimized for each customer.
Is that what is actually happening.
I am surprised they even need 4nm. HBM base die does not require advanced processes. So is there additional logic on HBM4E as was planned?
Gelsinger and Swan didnt agree on much.... But they both agreed on getting rid of memory and stopping work with Micron. Billlions were lost on NAND market in the years to follow the sell off and now we are seeing a new normal. Neither saw this coming.
I dont expect or hope for a inflection point. anything that dramatic would be dangerous.
Bits are growing at 20%+ per year now. expect 20-25% next year. then it gets interesting.
If micron doubled its output, but prices went back to where there were in Q1 (record margins at the time), net...
Since you mentiioned financials
1) IBM does its research lab acvitivies at Albany nanotech, correct? which is owned by the state and leased space to IBM? IBM does not own it?
2) tool are provided by other partners there for research, Does the state own those tools or does ASML etc.
3) Does IBM...
As you mentioned, It is well known that transfering a technology from IBM leads to severe problems. Intel also has a history of leading edge, high cost, unmanufacturable technologies.
As far are people using IBMs ideas, yes manufacturing companies look at all the research data from...
If you talk to IBM people, yes.
... and they invented wafers, GPUs, CMOS, cellphones, grand theft auto,..... and wait for it ..... the question mark. :ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL:
Micron has supply agreements in place. they guarantee minimum margins similar to peak margins of previous cycle. I cant share the details but they are very good at what should be Microns primary goal.
"the new normal is 70% plus gross margin" (which is lower than today).. NEVER allow it to go...
This is interesting research. I congratulate my friends at IBM for research and their leadership
But IBM does not manufacture semiconductors for itself or anyone else. Correct?
IBM 2nm was "announced" over 5 years ago and it is still 2+ years from anyone (Rapidus) using it in a real product...
these comments are verty speculative and probably inaccurate....
"Apple would probably want to use Intel's 14A process technology... and that's expected to be available in 2028 or 2029 so it's still going to be a while," said Bob O'Donnell, an analyst at TECHnalysis Research."
There will be...
I am not an expert in software systems. But I was told by someone there that they are using AI to provide and simplify configuration for customers. I assumed for code/script modifications for database analysis.... again you probably know more than me.
This is just an excuse. Its like saying "due to overall economy" as a reason that the company is not responsible for.
Investors generally love layoffs if the financials look good.
that said, A Lot of what oracle does is the target of AI automation. I have heard they are buying AI capacity...
4F starts in a couple years, 3D is much further out. One interesting topic, Since memory is so high margin now, companies can take a financial risk on capacity and architecture. They could build a 3D fab, delay the ramp 2 years and still be very profitable. This has never been true in the past.
@Ole Hoejlund
I do reports and presentations on this all the time. Some comments I typically make: (call me to discuss)
1) No one really saw this coming. In August 2025, most analysts were predicting moderate growth for at least 6 months to a year. Then companies went all in with their Capex...
BTW:
If you ask Gemini whether AI is a waste of money, It will site Facebook, Tiktok, Reddit, and Hollywood Life and the Onion to give you a very well thought out summary. It uses only the most reliable sources.
true.... but my point was not on the market. what would happen to society......
Similar example: what would happen if there were no athletes making 10M+ per year, No supermodels in adverstisements, No Cars that cost more than 100K USD, No new gaming systems since 2020? ... but would most...
Question: IF AI went away and we were back to 2022. What would be the significant difference in our life?
If you have made a career out of posting 10 random blogs a day on linked in with realistic (fake) graphics.... all without doing any research or having any knowledge, you do not need to answer.
I believe Intel will give some color on internal vs external use going forward. I believe the intention is to use TSMC at about the same level and ramp 3/18A to replace 10/7 (10/7 was 80% of revenue in 2025).
The other issue is price. Intel 7 was much lower price and still had higher margins...
