Summary of Role:

The GlobalFoundries Fab 10 Supplier Quality Engineering team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated engineer to handle supplier quality related activities internally with cross-functional teams and externally with suppliers. Responsibilities include being the first point of contact for all supplier related quality issues and have the ability to drive solutions internally within GF or externally with the suppliers using structured provide tools.  Issues concerning incoming materials can be related to wafers, chemicals, gases, slurries, and tooling.  As one of GF’s supplier quality engineers in GF’s Fab 10 (East Fishkill, NY) facility with a specific commodity set and supplier list assigned, candidate will be responsible for initial containment of any incidents which adversely affect normal production flow in the manufacturing line due to external supplier issues.  The selected candidate will also help commodity lead engineers drive for implementation of best practices and continuous improvement across all of the assigned suppliers.

Top candidates will have outstanding interpersonal skills, experience working across cultures as well as excellent presentation skills.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on state of the art 300mm semiconductor ETCH equipment
  • React to error messages of factory systems and/or equipment
  • Review Statistical Process Control charts for process quality and react to Out of Control conditions including defect troubleshooting
  • Perform visual inspections (quality check)
  • Recover from process and tool interruptions
  • Complete all required reporting and documentation
  • Actively participate in Drive discussions and improvements with suppliers to overcome issues/incidents as quickly as possible
  • Interface and communicate with all stakeholders from technicians through upper management in and out of our company
  • Drive and assist suppliers with formal structured problem solving (8D analysis) for all incidents and excursions.
  • Perform external audits in a lead or support role.
  • Rate supplier performance annually
  • Work with internal module engineering groups to bound and diagnose issues that may be supplier induced and drive toward zero excursion / zero defects.
  • Work with other GF FAB supplier quality engineers on cross-site specification harmonization
  • Execute and support new supplier and commodity qualifications for new processes or cost reduction.
  • Provide necessary input to our supplier management/procurement team regarding issues with potential suppliers, including formal risk assessments to aid in strategic decisions.
  • Support Supplier performance management and assessment in collaboration with global supply management . continuous improvement processes, learning and skills development

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:  Bachelor of Science degree in engineering/science/technical area including materials science, chemistry, etc.
  • Experience:  0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and react to shifting priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily direction
  • Ability and willingness to assist other local and global lead SQE’s with their responsibilities when necessary
  • Travel:  Minimal (<10%) although occasional external supplier audits may be necessary
  • Fluency in English Language – written & verbal
  • Physical Capacity Demands:  Ability to work in mostly an office environment in front of a computer for long periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified IATF6949 Lead Auditor
  • ISO9001-2015 Internal Auditor
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certification
  • Semiconductor process experience across multiple commodities.
  • Sound understanding of SPC (statistical process control) and able to use in evaluation of supplier behavior and specification evaluation
  • Ability to drive FMEA development from suppliers.
  • Experience in supplier quality engineering role.
  • 5 years minimum experience in a semiconductor manufacturing environment and 3 years minimum experience working in a quality engineering role
