Summary of Role:

The GlobalFoundries Application Engineering – Design support team is responsible for providing direct technical support on the Design Enablement tools and Technologies in which customers are designing chips. This includes GlobalFoundries’ state-of-the-art Silicon Photonics, RF SiGe, Specialty High Voltage, SOI and FinFET technologies. In addition to answering specific technical questions for the customers, the AE-Design team also provides occasional technical training at the customer’s site or on-line.

The candidate will also be responsible to drive clients’ requests and insight into the internal Design Enablement and Technology Development teams, resulting in increased competitiveness of GF’s Design Enablement and Technologies in the marketplace, and higher client satisfaction. Experience with industry standard design, simulation, layout and checking extraction tools such as Cadence, Mentor and Synopsys DRC, LVS and PEX, and/or silicon technology process development is required.

Problem solving and personal communication skills are used heavily. This position offers an opportunity for direct customer interaction. An ability to represent GlobalFoundries in a direct customer contact role is essential.

Locations include Santa Clara, CA, San Diego, CA (offsite) or Austin, TX.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as single technical interface to customer and work with FAE to coordinate all technical sales interaction
  • Develop customized technical presentations and proposals to assist customers in the evaluation of our solutions
  • Offer most credible representation of strengths and weaknesses of the GlobalFoundries technology (internally & externally)
  • Formulate customer requirements and promote a compelling GlobalFoundries design solution with our enablement (PDK) and convey our value proposition
  • Identify and propose solutions to gaps and bottlenecks in the GlobalFoundries PDK to meet customer requirements
  • Collaborate and leverage GlobalFoundries product marketing/design solutions/technology development teams, and provide real time customer feedback
  • Understand competitive design/technology/product landscape including emerging technology trends and competitive threats
  • Continuously learn about the customer and product, developing relationships, gathering intelligence, uncovering new opportunities
  • Ensure that issues/obstacles/questions to a design win are resolved either directly or by engaging internal experts
  • Gather, summarize, and drive team to close the technical gaps in our offerings that result in design win losses and/or misses in new revenue opportunities
  • Partner with account and sales managers, working to ensure a smooth post-design win transition to Field Technical Support and Customer Engineering teams
  • Provide timely technical support to meet design win, tape out, and MPW goals
  • Replicate customer issues, provide the timely solution, work around for successful Tape-Out, and ensure first time silicon success.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in at least one of the following:
  • Analog Mixed signal design
  • RF circuit design
  • Analog mixed signal simulations using Cadence Spectre or Synopsys Hspice
  • Spice modeling or characterization
  • Experience supporting Cadence Virtuoso, ADE-XL/Explorer/Assembler, PCELLs, and CDFs
  • Deep knowledge of EDA design methodology from design concept to tape-out
  • Proficiency in UNIX / Linux OS
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written (English)
  • Travel: 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s and or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • PDK (Spice Models, DRC, LVS) development
  • Experience in programming (C/C++) or Scripting (Perl, Python, C-Shell or TCL)
  • Experience in debugging Siemens (Mentor) Calibre DRC/LVS/DFM or Cadence PVS/Pegasus LVS/DRC/MVS violations
  • Excellent communication skills with proven track record of customer engagement
