What ever happened to IFS Independence?

2 years ago, Pat and the Intel team said that IFS would be independent to provide a boundary between product group and foundry.

Since then I have not heard much and the feel is that IFS is being managed to help the greater Intel and Intel Products is working to make foundry succesful.

has Intel communicated anything on the current organization and independence or lack there of?

Splitting off its foundry business will enable the newly formed IFS to have greater financial transparency as well as more flexibility. Gelsinger summarized the change, "provides our external foundry customers and suppliers with clearer separation and independence from the rest of Intel."

No changes have been made to the leadership team, who continue to report to Intel's CEO, however a separate operating board will be established.

I still think that is possible but IFS will have to be able to stand on their own two feet which is years away. Remember, Lip-Bu is not doing the Intel CEO job for money, he is cementing his legacy as one of the greatest semiconductor CEOs of all times and successfully separating the companies would do just that.

The industry tide is definitely going his way. There is a nautical phrase "Fair winds and following seas", Lip-Bu Tan is definitely experiencing fair winds and following seas. Agentic AI is propping up the Intel products business and the NOT TSMC market is opening up the Intel Foundry business. If Intel 14A succeeds, and I think it will, 2030 should be an excellent opportunity for Intel to be split, absolutely.
