Will China Beat US in Chips? Intel going fab-lite?

The strange thing here is the multi-billion funding is supposed to be from the government, and it's not enough? Maybe the government has to be more careful going forward.

I believe it is both government and private funds. In China private investment is strongly encouraged to accompany Government investment. The foundry business has changed so much in the last ten years it really is something to watch. It certainly keeps us foundry pundits busy! I'm sure the Chinese market can keep SMIC busy for years to come, absolutely. Maybe Intel will get back into the foundry business to pick up the slack. Intel 14nm is much better than SMIC 14nm, absolutely.
