Solution for System of Systems

Today, we need system level automation which includes a complete assembly of ASICs, FPGAs, Cables, PC Boards, and meticulously designed Enclosures. On top of that, we require software, networks, and all kinds of tools. The EDA vendors who were focusing on IC implementation and verification are now including the entire perspective of a system in their solutions.

If I see Mentor Graphics offerings, they widely cover entire aspects of systems from IC design and fabrication up to assembly of all components, cabling and mechanical design of systems. This was obvious from what was presented last week in their annual PCB Systems forum.

Mentor provides complete design data management for systems, cable and wire harnessing, and PCB and DFM solutions. The IC solution includes tools for design, yield enhancement, DFT, verification, and so on. And they provide state-of-the-art software including OS support, RTOS & Middleware, embedded software, and so on. They provide wide ranging solutions for systems including mechanical, cabling and automotive design.

It was interesting to see the keynote presentation of Ruchir Dixit, Technical Director at Mentor. This was presented in Bangalore, I couldn't attend in person, but could view the presentation off-line. Mentor holds PCB Systems forum regularly. Anyone interested in attending future forums can review and register at their webpage HERE.
