Samsung is readying its Internet of Things (IoT) chipset called Artik for announcement, according to a news report from CNET. The Korean electronics giant is expected to unveil Artik at the Internet of Things World conference being held in San Francisco on May 12-13, 2015.

Samsung is ramping up its own OEM initiatives for wearable and IoT devices and acquired the smart home startup SmartThings in August 2014. But the Artik chips will most likely go beyond Samsung's own IoT appliances and will be targeted for IoT products from other makers.

Artik chipset will aimed at a range of smart devices including smartphones, TVs, fridges and washing machines.
