Recently Qualcomm has been collaborating with multiple medical companies to infuse semiconductor technologies into medicals.

Earlier this month Qualcomm Life formed a joint venture with Novartis to develop digital smart inhaler for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This small, low power device will transmit real-time patient data to the user's smartphone and Novartis COPD mobile app. The data is further sent to cloud which allows the healthcare professionals to monitor their patients' conditions.

This time Qualcomm is in discussion with GlaxoSmithKline to form a joint venture to develop more medical technologies. Also, Glaxo is pursuing with other semicon tech leaders like Google and IBM for managing health related data for their product consumers.

That sounds like a happy marriage of medicals with semis over IoT for managing health data, its wireless transmission, and administering patients from remote. These progressive gestures by pharmaceutical companies to work with semiconductor companies to advance technologies in the world of life sciences is a win-win for both industries.
