"Tech leadership; it's not enough just to have R&D... You have to learn how to manufacture it & make something out of it.”

Intel, IBM, and Globalfoundries are not lacking tons of IP and patents. How do they make those into revenue and profit is the ultimate test.

That could be a poke at IBM and Intel who spend billions on R&D and stumble into manufacturing.
More likely IBM who were always good at advanced process R&D, but didn't ever really care about yield so long as they could make a few working Power CPUs for multimillion dollar mainframes...

Yes, I think GF experienced that directly with IBM's 7nm and 5nm. Now IBM is in bed with Samsung and Intel. Not sure how that love triangle is going to yield either.

IBM "helping" Samsung with their FinFET process design is said to be one reason they never got yields up to TSMC levels...

How do you make revenue, and profits by waving your "IP" around. Quite a futile exercise.

Well that's good because GF dismantled their mask house and sold it for scrap 2 years ago.

Expect nothing short of cynical, bad faith opportunism from McKinsey and Mubadala as they bum rush this IPO with financial engineering in lieu of semiconductor engineering.

IMO: IBM licensed IP and process technologies but not volume manufactured wafers. She will be in bed with whoever pays the money.
