Fastest Growing Interface IP

Development of interface IP needs substantial investment including engineering cost, EDA tool cost, testchip production cost, characterization and qualification cost and last but not least sales and marketing cost. To ensure the ROI it is very important to do a proper market analysis, competition analysis, growth analysis.

Which one of USB 3.0 or Display Port or MIPI M-PHY will see maximum market potential and growth in next 5 years. Or it is better to concentrate on new standards like MHL.

The question is what are the interface standards in which a company should invest and specialize

Barun

USB, HDMI, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and PCIe standards are our best to focus on new products, design integration, and widely accepted by worldwide customers for the next 5 years. New interface IP or standards are good but there is none so far. One more thing: 2013 is a perfect time to get rid of legacy interfaces. We do have enough solution for "backward compatability" to help with transition. Less interfaces, less components, less complications, less development time, less cost, more efficients, etc.

The new standards may take time to evelove, but variation of the exisiting standards may evolve in near future. For example, it seems that one of the key area of focus will be wireless version of those interface IPs due to demand of wireless consumer devices. For example wireless HDMI and wireless PCI-E is gaining momentum.
