On October 18th, 2021, Sichuan Hexin Microelectronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "HexinMicro"), a local high-level IC design company served by the Electronic Information Industry Bureau of Chengdu High-tech Zone, held an online product launch conference to release five RF chips under the "Cenchip" brand, including the first sets of 2.4G&5G high-power WiFi6 FEM chips, one 5G high-power WiFi5 FEM chip and two high-power WiFi PA chips.






What Are the Highlights of The RF Chip Released This Time?



The five radio frequency chips released this time have three major highlights: "high frequency band", "high linear output power" and "pin compatible replacement of high-end imported products". The high-frequency band refers to the working frequency band of WiFi6 (including WiFi6E) 5~7GHz, which is much higher than the 2~4GHz working frequency band of 4G/5G mobile phones, and the chip design is very difficult. High linear output power means that the linear output power of WiFi6 is measured under the condition of -43dB DEVM. In contrast, the linear output power of WiFi5 is measured under the condition of -35dB DEVM. The linearity index of WiFi6 power amplifier requirement is much higher. Considering that the highest bandwidth of WiFi6 is 160MHz, which is twice the highest bandwidth of WiFi5, which is 80MHz, when traditional WiFi5 amplifier is tested when WiFi6's highest bandwidth, and the output linear power is often less than a quarter of the original WiFi6 radio frequency The difficulty of chip design is greatly increased.



Compatibility and replacement of high-end imported product pins: The chip released this time is mainly against the US Skyworks and Qorvo high-power WiFi6 RF FEM chip, and the package size is 3x5mm QFN24. The WiFi6 standard was officially launched in 2019, and its maximum transmission rate is close to 10Gbps. According to the "RF Front End: RF Front End 100 Billion Blue Ocean, Localization Rising" research report released on September 14, 2021 by "China Merchants Electronics", "from 2020 to 2025, the popularity rate of WiFi6 in mobile phones will continue to increase, and it is expected to exceed 60% in 2025; the popularity rate of WiFi6 in routers is faster than that of mobile phones, and it is expected to exceed 90% in 2025; the global router WiFi FEM market scale will be increased From 800 million US dollars in 2020 to 1.8 billion US dollars in 2025."



According to the reports, the Cenchip series of chips released this time are mainly against the US Skyworks and Qorvo high-power WiFi6 RF FEM chips, which can seamlessly replace a variety of products of international brands with Pin-Pin, without any changes to the customer's PCB board. A HexinMicro engineer stated that the various parameter indicators of the Cenchip series of chips have reached the international level, and have the ability to realize import substitution and break the monopoly of foreign products. In addition to the 5 US patents purchased from the US company EPICOM, the Hexin RF team has also applied for 16 Chinese patents, and the Cenchip series of products have completely independent intellectual property rights. At present, many customers at home and abroad have tested the RF chips released this time, and they are gradually being introduced into router terminal products.
