Transportation from aircraft, cars, boats, commercial trucks are all increasingly integrating more chips, entrainment systems, cameras security, safety, and sensors of all types into increasing complex systems. Self-driving and traffic integration systems will drive even more demand. This trend is still in its early stages and picking up speed as it is cheaper to require automation of our cars and highways rather than try to build new road systems when no more space is available. It will be possible to have lanes with automatic controls that will be able to double the capacity of current lanes. Those cars without integration will eventually be relegated to snail paced lanes and only for people that place little value on their time. This will also be applicable to aircraft. This will also free up time for the drivers to do other tasks. All this will create new markets demanding ever more advanced, chips, sensors and communications.
Qualcomm CEO just now on CNBC sees the automotive industry will be their new high growth area and stated autos will become a "Connected computer on wheels" and their high growth area. He also believes they can bring automated driving to even entry level cars. Currently Qualcomm has many projects underway with the auto companies.
