Autodesk bids for Altium

When I hear Autodesk I think 3D architectural software, while Altium is all about PCB software from Australia. Yes, the product lines are non-overlapping. Yes, lots of ex-Mentor sales guys are at Autodesk, but is this a smart deal?

Altium is the Solidworks of PCB design.

Nobody can buy Solidworks for obvious reasons. Altium... not so much.

It scares me if they'll do the same to it as to their current offerings. The near entirety of professional PCB design is tied to a single piece of software which can be gone with any next update package unless you sign up for some cloud thingy subscription.
