Apple's (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook on Q1 2015 Results - Earnings Call Transcript

Here is the most amazing quote from Tim Cook:
Demand for iPhone has been staggering, shattering our high expectation, with sales of over 74 million units, driven by the unprecedented popularity of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This volume is hard to comprehend. On average we sold over 34,000 iPhones every hour, 24 hours a day, everyday of the quarter.

They are manuacturing 10 iPhones a second!!!

That's more than 60 TSMC 20nm wafers per hour...... or 1,500 wafers per day...... or 45,000 wafers per month .....

Some Points

Apple can have any capable foundry make the chip since it there own design and can't be copied. I'm sure Apple patented and copyrighted every detail to protect their IP.

Samsung needs the business desperately since the are getting squeezed between Apple at the top and Xiaomi at the bottom.

Qualcom has some real maneuvering to do with Apple and Samsung designing their own chips.

Xiaomi could be a serious threat since I have heard their operating system and ecosystem is easier to use than Apples and they are willing to sacrifice margin.

Apple has the most complete ecosystem of anyone and this is their wide moat.

Apple has more money than anyone and the brains to use it strategically.

Medical is the next great area for the semi industry and business in general and Apple is going to be a leader, if not the leader.

Samsung is getting desperate and isn't stupid, so they are a wild card. The problem is they burned Apple the first time around and won't be able to do it again. This also spooks others who don't have Apples power to use their foundry services.

TSM and Apple are a wild card and they are the only ones who truly know their game. Apple would never single source to Samsung.

Apple could build/buy their own foundry, but probably won't for it would spread their talent and management thin.

As we have seen with numerous products, the profit margin narrows and they become commodities.

Just like IBM ruled computers for many years, then Wintel, all have a life span.

The smart phones and wearable devices will become commodity products over time with declining margins and this happens faster and faster.

China and Xiaomi are the wild card. Xiaomi has proven they can sell huge quantities in a matter of hours if not minutes.

It's really impressive - $74.6B of revenue and a profit of $18B in a quarter which any company couldn't make in the history!
Amazing value Apple has created - $650B

Interestingly, Apple is #1 in China now with its revenue increasing by 70% on the back of iPhone 6 and 6 plus. Xiaomi is left behind.

What a company which turned the table from being at the edge of bankruptcy to such a massive success! It's beyond there own expectations.

That tells, it's difficult to say what's going to happen - Who knew Nokia's fortune will decline and Apple's will rise like this? We are talking about it after it happened!
