China Calling: AMD Forms Joint Venture for x86 Server SoCs in China
I'm wondering if it's in conflict with the cross licensing deal between Intel and AMD. Also, even Intel may not like it, how much is Intel willing to interfere this AMD/China deal? Considering Intel's relationship with Chinese government and the negative consequence if Intel decides to play hardball.
This is not a good news for Intel by any measure. But is it really a good news for AMD?
It means AMD is not expecting to sell too many AMD X86 chips (especially server chips) in mainland China because it will be competing with this new joint venture. Unless AMD knows it can't compete against Intel in Chinese market (or any other market) so it decided to give up the whole Chinese market potential? Is AMD transforming itself into a IP licensing company just like ARM?
