It all depends where Intel are with porting CPUs to TSMC. If they were starting today, for sure 3nm would be the best option, even though it leaves a truly massive gap before they can catch up with AMD who they leave owning the CPU market in TSMC 7nm/6nm and 5nm/4nm. Or maybe they've been working on this in the Intel skunk works for some time already and are targeting something available earlier than 3nm, maybe 5nm or 4nm (higher-density 5nm).
The next six months are make or break as Intel hurtles towards existential crisis.

I'm thinking Intel has made up their mind to do some major outsourcing deals with foundries. They are just waiting for a good timing to announce their decision and to find a way to minimize any negative impacts it may cause.
