Will Bare Metal Servers change Diversity of Processors?

With the growing trend of hosted bare metal servers will this change the semi sector to build more specialized processors or just adapt to the current range of processors? Is this going to be the wave of the future or just a specialized nitch? Any insights on this relationship and the semi sector would be appreciated as to variety and life cycles. Thanks

I think it'll be a niche. With bare metal you lose scalability and hardware abstraction, which are the key advantages of cloud but gain a bit of performance. Cloud has been moving in the opposite direction, of increasing abstraction of applications and services.

Bare metal is performance oriented, there are applications like high frequency trading where performance is absolutely paramount, and you want to be hosted right next to the exchange.
