In-Design EM Analysis for Microwave/RF Design and Verification Workflows

April 13, 2022

Overview

3D finite element method (FEM) and 3D planar method of moments (MoM) have become a standard design practice for ensuring the accuracy of the overall network simulation. However, without proper setup and use of electromagnetic (EM) analysis tools to define the structure and RF excitation (ports), designers can experience erroneous simulation results and/or excessively long simulation times.

This CadenceTECHTALK™ presents key best practices that can help designers achieve accurate simulation results in a short timeframe. In addition, we will highlight CAD techniques for leveraging EM simulation to analyze and optimize designs much more rapidly than by using the sheer brute force of large numbers for distinct EM simulations.

Speaker

Andy Hughes is a product engineering architect at Cadence, providing guidance and assistance to customers using AWR® EDA software to model their advanced microwave and RF circuit and system designs. He brings 30 years of experience in RF and microwave design and an in-depth understanding of product development, the techniques used in RF/microwave design, and how to best leverage EDA software to produce accurate simulations and reduce re-work and time to market. Andy received his BSEE from University of Leeds and has held various engineering and engineering manager roles at Marconi and Cobham Tactical Communications & Surveillance before joining AWR in 2013, a company acquired by Cadence in 2020.
