Develop and Verify Designs Using a Silicon Photonics Platform with Integrated Lasers

June 28, 2022 @ 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

START TIME: USA PST 9:00AM | EUROPE (GERMANY) 6:00PM

DURATION: 60 MINUTES

ABSTRACT:

As the optical transceiver market moves from 400GBs to 800GBs, many complex analog components are required to assemble energy efficient and cost-effective optical modules.

At this joint webinar we will use an 800G-DR8 PIC design case study to show how to accurately develop Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) designs with a focus on co-simulating and synthesizing an integrated laser. The webinar will introduce key process and PDK features of Tower’s PH18 process and demonstrate the top-down design flow using Synopsys OptoCompiler for PIC schematic entry and layout, OptSim and PrimeSim for simulation, and IC Validator for physical verification (DRC/LVS). Attend this joint webinar to learn how to improve performance and scalability, while reducing cost of your design using the industry’s first open laser-on-a-chip silicon photonics platform for telecom, datacom, LiDAR, healthcare, HPC, AI, and optical computing applications.

SPEAKERS

Samir Chaudhry

  • Director, Design Enablement
  • Tower Semiconductor

Dr. Chaudhry has been leading the IC Design Enablement group for Tower Semiconductor since 2008. Prior to this, he led the SPICE modeling group at Jazz Semiconductor. His research interests include RF CMOS and statistical modeling. He has worked with the Compact Modeling Council in developing industry standard compact models for circuit simulation. Prior to joining Jazz, he was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff with Bell Labs, where he worked on Technology CAD and device modeling for scaled silicon technologies. He has authored over 25 journal publications and has 30 patents in the field of silicon technology.

Jae Shin

  • Director of Design Enablement
  • OpenLight

Dr. Jae Shin is Director of Design Enablement for a newly formed company OpenLight, spun out of Juniper Networks in April 2022, enabling the industry’s first open silicon photonics platform with integrated lasers. Before this, Dr. Shin lead the layout team to deliver both development and product mask designs, and also the development of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) design flows for Juniper’s silicon photonics group. Prior to that, he was the Design Automation Architect at Aurrion Inc. Dr. Shin holds a PhD in Materials Science from UCSB and a BS in Inorganic Materials from Seoul National University.

Daniel Sparacin

  • VP of Business Development & Strategy
  • OpenLight

Dr. Daniel Sparacin is VP of Business Development and Strategy for a newly formed company OpenLight, spun out of Juniper Networks in April 2022, enabling the industry’s first open silicon photonics platform with integrated lasers. Prior to this, Dr. Sparacin held business development and product management roles for Juniper’s silicon photonics group and was the Director of Technology at Aurrion Inc. (acquired by Juniper in 2016) which developed the core silicon photonics technology that was subsequently commercialized at Juniper. In his early career, Dr. Sparacin worked as a silicon photonics researcher and an advisor to DARPA. Dr. Sparacin holds a PhD from MIT and a BS from Brown University, both in Material Science & Engineering.

Luis Orbe
